Long Hair Growth Tips

Hair Brush Selection for your Hair Type

long hair care tips2

A friend of mine the other day asked me how I keep my long thick gorgeous hair so neat and cared for, and how do you know which hair brush is the right one for you? I never really thought about it. Over the years I've tried several types of brushes, and just simply stuck with what felt good on my scalp and left my hair looking and feeling healthy, but not frizzy.

So I thought I would check it out and see for myself which commonly available hairbrushes offer the best protection and the most ease of use.

Hair Brush SelectionIn order to carry healthy, manageable hair throughout your life, you need to learn and practice the following tips early in life and never forget them. The main goal is to protect and prevent your hair from being damaged.

Brush and comb your hair as infrequently and as gently as possible (Your fingers will do the trick). Do not use a brush on your hair when it is wet and start with a wide-toothed comb first. Be sure not to over-brush dry hair. Never twist, tousle or wring your hair dry in a towel, but instead squeeze it dry gently using your hands.

If your hair maintains a lot of static, it could be due to dry weather, dry indoor air or a fine hair type. However, you can also get static if your brush has plastic bristles or tines. In this instance, switch to a natural bristle brush or mist hair spray on the brush and restyle. Handle your hair as little as possible. Avoid direct sun exposure and don't over do coloring or perms.

Now choose your brushes carefully.

As I have found over my years of brush use, all hairbrushes are not the created the same. Some are best for styling; others are ideal for creating smoothness or curvy waves. A lot of brushes are available for specific purposes. Once you find out what your needs are for your hair length, texture and style then you are on track. Check to see which type of brush your stylist uses. If you like it, buy it. This selection could change if you decide a short cut is more your style.

Here are some examples:

The Paddle Brush

Try This amazing AVEDA Wooden Paddle Brush

This brush is flat, wide and is best for brushing out long hair and creating straight, smooth styles. It can also give you a mini scalp massage. Because of its shape and size this brush should not be used to brush layers. It will never add volume, which is what layers are for.

The Cushion Style Brush

We Love this Bass Brushes, Large Oval, Cushion Style

This brush is for medium-length hair that is naturally smooth or straight. The flat bock reinforces the hair's sleekness. These brushes will make the most of box shaped bob's, the graduated cut and a disconnected outline. It's called the bi-level cut.

Sculpting Brushes

These brushes are great for adding volume to short, textured styles that need some movement. They are great for backcombing. The best hairstyles for these brushes include short cuts, round layers and texture outlines like razor perimeters and choppy ends.

Thermal Round Brushes

Try This  SUPRENT Nano Thermal Ceramic & Ionic Round Barrel Hair Brush

These brushes can be found in all sizes, including small, medium, large and jumbo-sized barrels. When used with the heat of a blow dryer, the smaller brushes act like rollers and create curl. The larger ones smooth out locks and add body. This is a favorite among professionals. The metal core heats up, shaping the hair from the inside out. Some good thermal brushes are Beautee Sense and Olivia Garden.

Thermal Flat Brush

This brush acts like a flat iron, smoothing and straitening the hair when used with the heat of a blow dryer, thus leaving it with not bend or lift. Whichever brush you use, hold the hair taut with the brush to create tension. This stretches the hair so it can form the new shape. It also adds shine and polish to your look.

In closing, be sure to look for brushes that have ball tips that are molded as part of the bristle. Ball tips that are glued or otherwise attached can pull hair and damage it. Good brushes are an investment; if they are good quality and well cared for, they should last for years and your hair will be much healthier because of the extra attention you have given to selecting the proper brushes.

Treating your Hair Like Antique Lace

Treating your Hair like Antique Lace

Treating your Hair Like Antique Lace

Treating your Hair like Antique LaceThis is the MOST IMPORTANT part of growing out your hair quickly. Focus less on making your hair grow faster and more on treating the hair you have well. This will decrease split ends, increase length retention, and will make your hair look healthier and stronger.

  • DO NOT DYE YOUR HAIR! This was hard for me, but if you care about growing your hair out long and strong, this is a must. Dye is harmful to your hair and scalp and will majorly damage and slow down your hair growth.
  • Along the same lines, stop using heat on your hair (or at the very least cut heat down to once or twice a month). This was really hard for me as well. I used to straighten and blow dry my hair daily. Any heat use pulls on your hair and fries your hair, which obviously isn't going to help you retain length. If you MUST use heat, please use a heat protectant spray.
  • Sleep on a satin pillowcase. Use a cotton tee shirt to dry your hair (gently) when you get out of the shower instead of a typical bath towel. Bath towels and normal pillow cases pull at hair, and damage it.
  • Be VERY careful with wet hair. Wet hair is the most fragile state hair can be in. DO NOT brush hair when it's wet. Instead, use your fingers to gently comb through your hair, then use a wide tooth comb to further remove tangles. When it comes to brushing, use a natural boar hair brush instead of a brush with plastic bristles. Plastic bristles are really damaging, and boar hair brushes are great for distributing the natural oils in your hair from scalp to tip.
  • Space your washes. THIS IS CRITICAL. Probably the most useful tip in my experience. Start by shampooing every other day. Then, after a few weeks to a month, move to shampooing every three days. I have even got to the point now where I shampoo every four days. Spacing washes allows natural oils to build up and nourish your hair, if you wash too often those natural oils get stripped. It may feel weird at first to space your washes, but trust me, your hair will get used to it and it will benefit your growth in the long run. On non-wash days you can still shower (of course, just wear a shower cap) and dry shampoo will help rid your hair of any greasiness. Dry shampoo is a must have for sure.
  • Develop a hair routine using natural products. On my wash days, I apply about 2 tbsp of melted virgin coconut oil and a bit of castor oil through my dry hair (concentrating on the ends). I put a plastic bag or shower cap on my hair, and let it sit on my hair for about an hour. Then, I get in the shower and rinse with warm water (NEVER use hot water on your hair, it's soooo damaging). I then rinse my hair with about 1/4 c of apple cider vinegar diluted with about 1/4 c of water. The ACV helps restore the pH of your hair and is a good, and cheap, natural clarifying agent. Then, I use a sulfate free (this is key, sulfate is super damaging to hair) shampoo from L'oreal (I think it's called L'Oreal sulfate-free everstrong thickening shampoo) and really massage it into my scalp. I then rinse this out and finish up with Mane n' Tail Moisturizing conditioner. After towel drying, I finish up with a tiny bit of coconut oil serum on the ends of my hair and let it air dry.
  • Wear hair naturally and in a non-tight style. Because naturally dried hair often doesn't look the best, it's nice to be able to throw it up into a loose bun, loose braid, or loose pony. The less clips and rubber bands, the better. I really loved using claw clips at the beginning when my hair was shorter.
  • DO NOT GET TRIMS UNLESS YOU NEED THEM. And by need them, I mean you have split ends that are starting to look bad. The rule of trimming your hair every 2-3 months is complete bull and will really slow down your hair growth progress. Unless you notice bad split ends (which you shouldn't have if you're following all these tips) then don't trim.

Be patient, and remember hair only grows so fast. Just try and focus on being healthy and treating the hair you have well. Take pics every month so you can track your progress, it will help you realize you are making some progress (even if it isn't that noticeable at first).

Ultimate Best Shampoo for Hair Loss Reviews: 2016 Edition

Hello and welcome to!  If you’re looking for the Best Hair loss Shampoo reviews, you’ve come to the right place.

Once you’re done reading this ultimate guide, you’ll know everything there is to know about all the best hair loss treatments.  Our writers have spent many hours combing through product reviews, reading scientific research papers and analyzing the best hair loss products and picked out the best shampoos for thinning hair and hair loss.
Read on to find out everything you need to know about hair loss shampoo.

Does Hair Regrowth Shampoo Really Work?

Yes!  Anti hairloss shampoo science has made huge leaps in recent years.  Powerful compounds like minoxidil and ketoconazole are the most popular doctor recommended shampoo additives for hair loss right now.  Also, brand new research shows that organic hair loss shampoo ingredients like emu oil, rosemary oil and nettle extract and even caffeine also help regrow hair.

In the past, shampoo products for hair loss made big claims but didn’t deliver.  Today’s best hair loss shampoos really work.  Of course, bogus hair loss products still exist.  However, all of the shampoos for hair loss and hair regrowth shampoos listed on this site are the real deal.

So, What Is the Best Hair Loss Shampoo?

That’s a complicated question.  People lose hair for many different reasons.  Male pattern baldness is the biggest cause of hair loss among men.  Poor hair health can also be a factor.  Even fungal overgrowth or malnutrition can cause hair loss.

Many shampoo manufacturers offer free shampoo to shoppers willing to produce an objective review on their product on YouTube or Amazon.  If you are unsure about the cause of your hair loss, we recommend that you try many different products and see which one works for you.

Here are 4 factors to think about before buying shampoo for hair loss or ordering a free hair loss shampoo product.

1.  Male Pattern BaldnessMale Pattern Baldness

Male pattern baldness is connected to a male hormone called testosterone.  DHT blockers like minoxidil counteract the effects of testosterone overproduction.  Women also lose hair because of DHT, especially after events that change hormone levels like pregnancy and menopause.  Any ketoconazole based product will help people with hormonal issues regain balance.

Regenepure DR and Lipogaine Big 3 are two of the best anti hair loss shampoos for people with hormonal issues.  Check out our reviews to get more information on these products.

2.  Fungal Overgrowth

Did you know that thousands of different microorganisms and fungi live on our scalp skin?  Normally, these little guys help our skin cells defend against germs.  However, overgrowth can lead to baldness.  Fungal overgrowth can starve hair follicles of the vitamins and nutrients they need.  There are many herbal and man-made antifungal compounds to try if you think fungal overgrowth may be causing hair loss.  Bosley’s Bos Revive is one of the only shampoos out there that contains methylchloroisothiazolinone.  Methylchloroisothiazolinone (aka MCT) is the most powerful antifungal on the market, but it can be harsh on the hair.  If you’re looking for an organic antifungal solution, we recommend Pura D’or Hair Loss Prevention Shampoo.  Pura D’or contains argan oil, a powerful natural antifungal.

3.  Poor Hair Health

Hair loss in women can be caused by poor hair health.  Overusing dyes and hair sprays can cause hair to become brittle.  A poor diet can also lead to unhealthy hair.  If your hair is breaking, organic hair loss shampoos we recommend that you try an organic hair loss shampoo.  Organic hair strengtheners that contain argan oil are particularly effective at strengthening hair.  Argan Oil Shampoo from Maple Holistics and Pura D’or Hair Loss Prevention are two of our favorite argan oil shampoos.

4.  Fragrance and Feel

Everybody’s hair is different.  Different ingredients perform in different ways depending on the hair type.  For example, some people say that shampoos containing aloe vera make their hair look great.  Because aloe vera is a powerful anti-inflammatory, aloe vera shampoos are good for people with scalp skin problems.  However, some say that aloe vera shampoos make their hair look limp.   If you like using aloe vera based shampoos, try PhytoWorx Organic  Shampoo or Apex Crown Hair Loss Prevention Shampoo.

Best Shampoo and Conditioner for Hair Growth

Believe it or not, one of the best new organic hair loss treatments for hair regrowth is caffeine.  Since the early 2000s, Dr. Adolf Klenk has been researching the effect of topical caffeine on hair follicle health.  Finally in 2015, Klenk’s theory that caffeine speeds up hair growth was validated by impressive lab results.

After Germany’s prestigious Lübeck University published the results of Klenk’s study, two companies rushed to produce caffeine-based hair loss shampoos.  If you want to see if caffeine helps you grow hair fast, try Wick & Ström’s Apex Crown shampoo or Hair Surge from Ultrax Labs.

Apex Crown vs. Hair Surge

Both shampoos both feature caffeine as a main ingredient.  Both products are nearly identical, except for aloe vera.  Apex Crown contains aloe vera, but Hair Surge does not.  Aloe vera is great for dry scalp skin caused by dermatitis or acne.  Additionally, shampoos that contain aloe vera are good for people with frizzy hair.  However, some people with fine hair find that aloe vera weighs down their hair and makes it look flat.  Also, Apex Crown is much cheaper than Hair Surge.

Which Conditioner Should I Use?

Because Apex Crown and Hair Surge both contain small amounts of ketoconazole, we recommend using a conditioner after washing.  Ketoconazole kills off scalp fungus that can accumulate if you use lots of hair spray or hair gel.  However, ketoconazole will leave your hair feeling dry if you don’t use a conditioner.  Any type of quality organic conditioner will guard against dryness.

What’s the Best Organic Shampoo for Hair Loss?

Prior to 2010, minoxidil was the most popular hair loss product.  Then, organic hair loss shampoos came out.  Some organic hair loss products are even more effective than minoxidil.  Organic shampoos are particularly effective in treating hair loss in women.  Minoxidil is great for males but can be harsh on long female hair.

Reborn MAX from Reborn Labs

If you are a woman suffering from thin hair, we recommend that you try Reborn MAX.  Reborn MAX is the only product we’ve seen that contains herbs used by practitioners of Ayurveda.  Ayurveda medicinal herbs are very popular in India.  Indian hair care fans say that Ayurveda-based beauty products are far superior to their Western counterparts.  The main ingredient in Reborn MAX is bhringraj.  In English, bhringraj means “master of hair.”  A brand new study showed that bhringraj is actually more effective than minoxidil, the most popular hair loss substance in North America and Europe.  However, some reviewers didn’t like the smell of Reborn MAX.  It smells different because it’s made from herbs that are uncommon in the Western world.

Phytoworx Organic Hair Loss Shampoo

Another interesting organic shampoo to try is Phytoworx Organic Shampoo.  This shampoo smells more familiar compared to Reborn MAX.  It contains rare fruit extracts, rosemary oil and aloe vera.  Doctor Oz recommended rosemary oil as a treatment for hair loss back in the early 2000s on Oprah.  A 2015 study from the International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology showed that rosemary oil was just as effective as minoxidil.  The featured ingredient in this product is derived from a rare Swiss apple tree.  Many celebrities love Phytoworx.  First lady Michelle Obama, singer Jennifer Lopez and actress Helen Mirren are all Phytoworx fans.

What Is the Best Shampoo for Thinning Hair?

Have you noticed that your hair is getting thin?  If you don’t have any baldBest Hair loss Shampoo spots yet, you still have time to act.  Shampoos formulated to fight hair loss can help.  Check out our hair loss shampoo reviews to get the information you need.

The best shampoos for losing hair help correct hormonal issues, kill off fungal overgrowth and enhance overall hair health.

One of the all-around best shampoos for hair loss that we’ve run across is Lipogaine Big 3.  According to hair loss product reviewer Chris from, Lipogaine Big 3 is one of the best all-purpose hair loss shampoos.  We also think that Lipogaine Big 3 is a great product to start with if you want to try a hair loss prevention shampoo product.

The “big 3” ingredients contained in the formula are ketoconazole, emu oil and biotin.  Hair is made of biotin proteins.  Topical biotin helps protect hair and prevents breakage.  Emu oil fights inflammation, so it’s good for people suffering from dermatitis or other scalp skin issues.  The third ingredient, ketoconazole, is a powerful antifungal that also blocks DMT.  DMT is the byproduct of testosterone that causes male pattern baldness.

Olive Oil: Olive oil is a natural conditioner for the hair and promotes scalp health. Olive oil has plenty of antioxidants which are essential to keeping the skin of your scalp in healthy shape. Long Hair Growth Tips

Hi! If your like me and millions of other woman from around the world, it is essential that we know the best ways to grow and care for long beautiful hair. As you and I both know, woman with long beautiful hair are extremely attractive to the opposite sex and a gorgeous head of long hair will drives men wild. The problem is that growing a long and beautiful head of hair can be a difficult and challenging for many women, but if you want to learn a few secrets on how to start growing a more healthy head of hair that is long, thick, silky and luscious continue reading our tips below.

Long hair growth secrets, tips, ideas and more are right here.

Keep in mind that the suggestions in this article are just the tip of the iceberg. These tips that I'm about to share with you are a nice foundation, but not as in-depth as the secrets, tips, and techniques on how to grow long beautiful hair that you will discover if you were to get the “Hair Grow Secrets” book written by beauty therapist Engy Khalil.

Long Hair Secrets

Here are the best tips ever on how to grow your hair beautifully long:

  • Your Hair Brush

The first and probably most important tip is to have an awesome brush to comb your hair with. I'm not talking about the crappy Wal-Mart brand either. The perfect hair brush will be made with Maple or Ashwood. Using a high quality Wooden Brush like this Ambassador Hair Brush which is made in Germany is extremely important. This wooden brush helps by absorbing your hairs natural oils and distributing them evenly throughout your hair and also helps condition it. This brush also helps by reducing static electricity and prevents breakage which obviously damages the hair to. Believe me, I'll never ever go back to a cheap plastic brush and I guarantee you once you go with a wood hair brush you'll never go back to cheap brands.

  • Oiling Your Hair

Oiling your hair is one of the best ways that you can condition your hair. It keeps it hydrated, it keeps it soft, it keeps it shiny. There are so many oils that you can use for your hair. Some of my personal favorites are Pure Argon Oil, Neem Oil, Rosemary Essential Oil, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil is really good if you have thin hair because it's really light, and Avocado Oil… there are so many oils, you can use really use anything you want. You just want to make sure it's unrefined, cold pressed and organic. You also want to add in some essential oil like Neem Oil. Rosemary Essential Oil is really really good for stimulating circulation to the scalp. It makes your hair so soft and it really just promotes healthy hair growth. Same with Neem Oil, Neem is amazing for growing strong healthy hair. It's just a beautiful oil. I like to mix a few oils together and make my own hair conditioner. So there are two ways that I oil my hair. See how it's done in the Hair Grow Secrets book.

  • Shampoo and Conditioner

Shampoo washes away dirt from your hair, but it also can wash off natural oils that help promote soft and healthy hair. Because of this, do not apply shampoo on your hair every day. Shampoo and Condition only 2-3 times a week is enough to wash away the dirt from your hair. So now it's time to talk about shampoo and conditioner. You can read the label of your bottle of shampoo and it can make it sound like the most amazing spectacular shampoo and it is going to make your hair grow up healthy as it can and make it shiny, soft and beautiful. Well, That's mainly marketing and they just want you to buy the shampoo and conditioner so you know it's pretty much just lies. What you want to be doing for your long beautiful hair is looking at the back of the bottle and checking out the ingredient list. I would look for something that doesn't have things like sulfates, fragrances, salt… you know chemicals that are going to strip your hair and aren't that good for your health. My favorite shampoo is a brand by Calia. They are just an amazing company and their products really work for my hair. They're very gentle, they're very natural and I just love Calia so much, so of course I had to mention them again. I've been using them for years and I'll use them for the rest of my life and love you Calia.

  • Shower FilterVita-Fresh Shower Filter

I also like to use a shower filter so I can be washing my hair in the best water possible. I use the USB Vita Shower Filter which you can get on Amazon for around $60. This is a great filter that uses Vitamin C as a de-clorinating agent and filters out the bad chlorine and chloramines as you shower. Not only does it improve the texture of your hair, but it also conditions your skin. I try to only shampoo my hair every 4 to 6 days. I wash my body everyday, but I only shampoo and condition every 4 to 6 days and I find that the longer you go without shampooing the more your hair balances out and then you don't have to shampoo as often if that makes any sense and your hair oil kind of active conditioner is so it's good not to be stripping them out of your hair every single day.

  • Hair Rinses

I also highly highly highly recommend doing hair rinses. I have two hair rinses that I do all the time. One is an apple cider vinegar rinse where I just put a little bit of apple cider vinegar in the bottom of the cup around 2 tablespoons maybe and then fill the cup up with water and then just dump that over my head after I'm finished shampooing and conditioning. I just leave that in my hair and it leaves my hair so soft and shiny and the apple cider vinegar clarifies it, so I just always have a good hair day after I do an apple cider vinegar rinse. The second  rinse is being a rosemary hair rinse and rosemary is just amazing for growing long healthy hair. Basically just take some fresh rosemary and simmer in a pot with some water and then once it cools down just dump it over my head and it leaves my hair so soft and shiny and it smells so amazing.  So yeah, hair rinses can really make a big difference on your hair.

  • Cut Down on Heat

Now my next step is probably the hardest tip for a lot of people to do when trying to grow long beautiful hair, but please try to cut down on the amount of heat you're using to style your hair. You don't have to do this forever… you can just try and limit your use of heat. If you use a straightener everyday maybe just try and straighten it only once a week. You just really want to give your hair a break and allow it to become healthy again. I used to straighten my hair every single day for high school and it just damaged my hair so much my hair looks horrible without styling. I would straighten my hair and my hair would become more damage so then I would have to straighten it even more to make it look healthy again and it would become even more damaged and it was just a vicious vicious cycle for me. So what I did was just cut that cycle and I was like I'm just not going to use heat on my hair anymore and I'm going to let my hair grow out and be natural and that's what I did and now I'm really really happy with my natural hair. I don't need to style it anymore and now I just let it air dry. I don't use any styling tool and I don't use any styling products. Just do little challenge with yourself and try to reduce the amount of heat that use in your hair for a while and I guarantee you will see a huge improvement with your hair.

  • Damage Control + Protection

Damage proof hairstyles is really important when it comes to growing long beautiful hair. For me, my favorite protective hairstyle is just putting my hair in a side braid pretty much 80% of the time. My go-to everyday hairstyle is just a side braid with some sort of hat I'd buy that it keeps my hair protected prevent it from getting matted and I love brave I think that they look really cute. I always wear protective hairstyles to bed. If I go to bed with my hair down I will wake up with the worst matted puffie dry hair. So, I have two protective hairstyles that I wear to bed. I will either twist my hair into a bun and then secured at the front of my head with a big clip and I love doing this because the next morning I just wake up with the perfect waves in my hair so it's kind of like a heatless way to style your hair or else I will sleep with my hair in a braid and then secure it with a scrunchie. I like using the scrunchy because sometimes an elastic band will break your hair but a scrunchie is soft and gentle and it won't cause any breakage.

  • Eating Healthy

I am a firm believer in eating a healthy whole foods diet and I also really believe that you are what you eat and if you eat beautiful nourishing foods it'll just shine through and you will look beautiful on the outside so I definitely think that food plays a huge role in having healthy hair. Eat your Omega 3 fatty acids and also eat your mineral rich foods. I love starting my day off with the green drink everyday. It gives me those minerals, its detoxifying and I just feel like it's the most beautifying elixir in the world. Just eat real natural healthy foods!

  • Be patient in growing your hair

If you are trying to grow long beautiful hair, you need to be very patient. You must remember that your hair will take a lot of time before it reaches the length that you want. Every month, you will be lucky if your hair grows up to 2 or more inches. So be patient and be reasonable with your expectations and you will have a better time growing your hair.

  • Effective Hair Supplements

A lot of you guys ask what supplements I take for my hair and if I could recommend one supplement for a hair it would probably be Kala Health MSM powder. MSM is an organic sulfer compound that benefits are skin, hair, nails and joints due to his collegen building properties. It's also a wonderful anti-inflammatory and great for detoxifying the body. I will mention that there are huge quality differences in MSM supplement so always look for a USA made form that is free from additives and highly purified. You can use it both internally and externally.

  • Trim your hair regularly

Trimming your hair does not grow your hair, but it does prevent split ends. When you get more split ends, the result is that you will have to trim or cut your hair more which makes the process of growing long beautiful hair much slower. Make sure to trim 1/6 inch off your hair every 2-3 months to prevent split ends.

See how easy it is to grow your hair long and healthy!
